In life there are very rare chances that you'll meet the person you love and loves you in return. So once you have it don't ever let go, the chance might never come your way again.~Jacquelinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11520101123459656385noreply@blogger.comBlogger200125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15786469.post-38479123815756690742011-06-19T23:26:00.000+08:002011-06-19T23:26:07.242+08:00What happen when you cant read & speak Thai?<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This evening I drove to a nearby shopping mall for dinner. I was walking around the mall alone and decided to have fast food dinner. I entered this McDonald's Restaurant and saw Samurai Pork Burger set on the menu. Since non-halal burger is not available in Malaysia, I decided to order a set for myself. =p
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">When I was in the queue, an auntie gave me and another customer some coupons. We thanked her and took her coupons. However, all the coupons were written in Thai. =( I wasn't sure what was the promotion about, but one of the coupons has the picture of Samurai Pork Burger set which I wanted.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">So, I handed the coupon to the cashier upon making my order. The cash register machine showed 106Baht, which was exactly the same price as the price showed on the board. Well, I thought the coupon has some sort of discount? How come I was still paying a full price? *confused*
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Guess what?!?! I only realized what was the coupon about after that!! It should be "Buy 1 set of Samurai Pork Burger & get 1 Pork Burger worth 56Baht for FREE".... Because, I ended up with 2 pork burgers, 1 pack of french fries & a coke!!! Hahaha!!! Greedy me bought 2 burgers for 1 meal. XD
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I took the extra burger home. It will be my breakfast tomorrow morning. LOL! That was a pretty funny experience on language barrier.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">1) Creative collaborators
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
A creative collaborator has realized that success doesn’t have to entail only individual accomplishment but can be more rewarding when it includes working together. With this awareness, creative collaborators redefine that emotionally packed word “success” so that wealth, position, and fame are no longer the only purpose for defining what really matters in designing one’s life. Creative collaboration is consistent with even the greatest individual accomplishment.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">2) Community Builders
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Some things are worth fighting for, yet most the time there’s a better way. While rebels thrive on the negative attention they receive from their opposition to almost anything, community builders are capable of transcending opposition when appropriate, respecting other viewpoints and exploring areas of potential unity. They learn to embrace the notion that we’re all connected and that no one wins unless we all do.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">3) Realizers
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
What’s it like when you’re in the presence of someone who really makes things happen? Most people report having a feeling of effervescence, as if they’d just taken the first sip of a good champagne. Realizers help open doors that seemed nonexistent minutes before. There’s a sense that all things are possible.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">4) Humorists
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Humorists are not the office clowns who make inappropriate jokes, or try to use humor to distract people from real problems. Humorists put our comfort and worries into perspective, so that we can laugh at ourselves and the situation and pause before tackling difficulties. Humorists don’t push us to avoid conflict but instead handle it in a balance, healthy way.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">5) Visionarists
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Visionary leaders have learned the art and craft of conflict transformation. Their core aim is to unite rather than divide people. They are sensitive to the desires and needs of others and often have internalized the feeling of what it’s like to be judged and told that they’re wrong. Out of that comes an ability to listen to others and imagine a better future.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">6) Explorers
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Explorers find out everything there is to know about a subject. They read books, browse the Internet, go to lectures and talk to just about everyone they can to find the right information. They take interest in a vast array of subjects and have a willingness to learn and an optimistic daring that is infectious. Explorers volunteer for projects and love to collaborate. While everyone else is dreading ambiguity, they will challenge all who seem unsure and hold them accountable for their words and actions. They inspire people to try new things and are always willing to be part of the first test to make sure that a project will succeed.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">7) Mentors
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Mentors know how to listen and give good advice at just the right time. They know how to stand in the background and applaud without needing credit. They’re willing to let go when you’re competent to make your own decisions without them. The best mentors are not those who sailed through life without setbacks but rather those who have had to go through their own intense training and overcome obstacles and challenges.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">8) Storytellers
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Storytelling has played a fundamental role in all societies to help human beings make sense of their world. Storytellers the world over establish a sense of credibility, authenticity, and wholeness in their communities. Rather than retreating from conflict, storytellers help communities understand how problems can be, and should be, solved. They help communicate company values, share important business knowledge, and limit office politics. They take a firm’s agenda and communicate it to all stakeholders, helping them feel comfortable and motivated even during periods of wrenching change.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">9) Integrators
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Integrators base their success on the ability to see all sides of a situation and allow conflicting parties to not only be heard but acknowledged. They have the ability to gather a group and find ways that individuals can work together and upwards.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">10) Truth Tellers
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Truth tellers have a firm grasp on what they want to say and have given deep thought as to the possible outcomes of their discourse. They will not change their mind just to pacify someone, although they are not averse to adjusting their opinions if that will enable a conflict to push towards resolution. They do not beat around the bush, and people in their audiences generally listen.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">11) Initiators
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Initiators are willing to start work on a project before all the questions have been answered. They take charge and become full participants in situations where creativity is especially important. The initiator can tolerate and moderate the conflicts that inevitably show up before creative process comes into full bloom. The initiator takes joy in the creative process and shows a willingness to let in all who wish to be included. Initiator like to get involved in the thick of arguments, thus allowing them to be resolved more quickly so that the creative process can move forward.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">12) Trust Builders
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;" type="disc">
Building trust means peeling away the defenses that have built over lifetimes. In the workplace, leaders build trust by considering all aspects of the business, from a successful bottom line to creative and engaged employees.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">13) Peacemakers
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<ul style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Peacemakers cannot be swayed to side with one group or individual against another.What they care about is the fight to preserve the integrity of the whole system.Peacemakers teach us that peace is a state of mind and that it’s still possible to be happy in the midst of turmoil and chaos.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">A few months ago, my dad told me about an awesome stage show called 'Siam Niramit'. He highly recommended me to check out this special Thai show. After reading some reviews from Trip Advisor, I decided to book my tickets! I approached a travel agent in Holiday Inn Silom (5 minutes walk from my office) and bought 2 tickets at a discounted rate! =)
We arrived before 6pm to collect our buffet vouchers and show tickets. Firstly, we were greeted by the friendly ushers and blessed with holly water. Then, I received a pretty orchid corsage from her too (the corsages were only given to all the female guests).
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">There were some souvenir stalls selling souvenirs mainly with elephant theme. An elephant was near the entrance waiting for customers who wanted to snap pictures or ride on it. Some dancers who wore traditional costumes were walking around smiling at the guests. After we took some photographs with the dancers, we went to the restaurant for buffet dinner. There was a wide variety of food at the buffet bar! From Thai style to Indian to western to vegetarian food! I didn't try all of them as I were already bloated up after 1 round of main course and 1 round of dessert. Haha!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Our first stop was rice cracker dessert that served in a banana leave bowl. The rice crackers looked like our normal coco cereal. When the lady handed me the rice cracker, I was looking at it and wondered how am I supposed to eat without a spoon. LOL! XD

The lady quickly used some sign language and taught me me to pour the rice crackers from little bowl directly into my mouth. Hahah!! I was giggling and followed her instructions. Ohh! The rice cracker was good! Crunchy! I gave her a thumb-up. "A-loy!!" (Yummy in Thai) Hehehe!!

Besides rice cracker, there were also other traditional Thai dessert like mini pancake, omelette, and more. I didn't try all the dessert, but I tried the omelette. Its good! Comparable with the Royal Omelette from Blue Elephant Restaurant. Haha! Yummers!

Guess what, there was a traditional way of making pop-corn too (See the picture below)! The lady was shaking the pop-corn maker up and down, in and out. Then, the corn seeds were popping one by one. It took pretty long time to make a small portion of pop-corn, not very efficient tho.
We waited for a while before everybody got into the hall and the show had began.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Do not worry if you couldn't understand Thai, because they do have subtitles in another 5 languages including English, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, and the last 1 was probably French? I couldn't read the last language but there was a 5th language. Haha!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">That was a great show on a gigantic stage, performed by ~150 performers! You wont be able to imagine how good it was until you experience it on your own. That was the best show I have ever watched so far. Its is highly recommended to see this show at least once if you are in Bangkok. Some might think THB 1,400 (approximately RM 140) for a show is pricey, but I think it worth every single Baht... Hehe!!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Tips: Apparently it is cheaper to book your ticket through travel agency (World Travel Agency), which cost only THB1,400 including transfers to and fro hotel, buffet dinner and the show.

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">On one fine evening, my colleagues and I decided to pamper ourselves with a good meal (very sick of the typical fried rice and fried noodle). We relied on T's new GPS to direct us to this famous Royal Thai restaurant located in Sathorn - Blue Elephant Restaurant.

I have first read about its good review from some travel forums. According to TravelFish, this is a chain restaurant which had branches elsewhere in the world for many years before finally opening a branch in Bangkok. It's other branches are locating in Jakarta, Dubai, Paris, London, Malta, Lyon and a few other cities.

Besides the restaurant, there is also a Blue Bar and Blue Elephant Cooking School in the same building. If you are interested to learn Thai traditional cooking, you can join their cooking classes. From their brochures, they are offering traditional Thai cooking classes on a daily basis.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
The waitress told us that their restaurant was fully booked and we were only limited to dine for an hour before their next group of customers arrives. We accepted the offer and she brought us to a round table with 3 seats.

Firstly, we were served with a set of complimentary starter consists of a crispy fried dumpling, yummy chicken soup in shot glass and a beautiful orchid (of course the flower was not edible).
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Wat Rong Kun a.k.a the white temple<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Thailand is one of the favourite/ popular tourist destinations. For many of us, first thing that comes across our mind should be 'temple'. If you happen to check out the Thailand map, you will be able to see lots of big and small temples scattered around the place. According to my tour guide in Chiang Rai, temples used to be a learning centre/ school and hospital in the past. That explains why there's a numerous number of temples around.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
When we entered the assembly hall, we saw an undone wall mural (paintings). Sadly, no camera was allowed at the area. The most challenging part is the language barrier, which is much more severe than it was in Jakarta. Thai language is a totally different language. So far, I only managed to learn a small handful of Thai language. Its only enough for me to do bargaining at shopping. Hehe!! Bargaining skill is a must in Bangkok!
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Our bigger issue is the problem during food ordering, especially those without English menu/ pictures! What can we do were either simply pointed at something or pointed at their customers’ bowl/ plate and asked for the same dish. Then, fingers crossed and hoped that the dish is what was expected. Therefore, we usually opt for the restaurants with an English menu or at least picture menu. We thought the real bowl of rice/ noodle should not go very far off from the picture. Haha!!
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Taking about food, another challenge for me is the spicy food!! Their chilies are superb in term of spiciness. Most of their tom yum or soup is added with tones of chilies. The chilies come in different sizes and shapes, including thin & short, fat & short, fat & long, and even green & round!! There was once T thought the rounded green chili was a green pea. LOL! He bitted on it and threw it out immediately. That was freaking spicy! For me, I always ended up with lots of water/ ice after the spicy meals.
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Last weekend, my colleagues and I visited the Pratunam market. Along the street, we saw a stall sold some fried stuff. There were fried grasshopper, beetles and worm. I suggested to T to tryout some of them. He bought 1 packet of fried worm and he dared me to eat them!! Ouchh!! They are worms…
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">He tried one and commented that it was not bad! ST tried one too. They said it tasted like the Chinese 'kam heung' cooking style of fried worm. Emmm... Ohh well, I ended up trying too! I took 1 bite at the tail instead of the head (the 2 eyes at its head were freaking me out). Its texture tasted like green pea!! I hate eating green pea. So, this is not my cup of tea. I won’t eat it again even though the taste was not horribly freaky.
<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">T seemed to love it a lot. Haha! Why was my bedroom door locked?! OMG! The apartment owner did not give me any key for that room!! I must be accidentally locked it in the morning! All my clothes and stuffs were locked in that room!! *(O_o)*

I was desperately wanted to open the door!! I need to get into the room!! T was there trying to unlock the door with various methods. We tried to slip business cards, post cards and brochures in between the door gap and hoped for the door to be unlocked. He even tried to poke the lock with wire and hair pin! However, all those were not working at all!! The door remain as locked.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

These are some of the methods we tried to unlock the door (proven not working/ or we just didn't have the skills)

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I called my Thai colleague for help, but her phone reception was so bad! We can hardly hear each other. Then, I called ST, another colleague a.k.a. neighbour for help. However, he was like in the mood of partially drunk. I wasn't sure if he heard me and understood my shit hit the fan situation at that time. Haha!

In the end, T and I approached our apartment security guard for assistance. We communicated with him with the simplest English. "Door locked. No key." (added with some sign language) Thank god! He understood and immediately informed a maintenance officer to help me.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">The maintenance officer followed us to the apartment unit. I pointed at my door knob. He looked at it and walked into the living hall instead. Guess what? He climbed out from the living hall window and slowly walked towards my room!! Then, he climbed into my room through the room window! Oh my gosh! It was a 12th floor and the sky was so dark! I can't imagine what would happen if he accidentally slipped and fall down. Touch wood!!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

I finally managed to squeeze some time out of my busy working schedule for some updates.

On my birthday afternoon, Mdm W drove me and another 2 colleagues to a nice Dutch restaurant in Puncak, Bogor. I ordered a dutch style cheese pancake and it was so exceptionally delicious!! On top of that, I ate a plate of spaghetti cabonara too. It was a plate of dry cabonara, which was not the creamy cabonara that we usually have in KL. Although that was something new to me, I still prefer the normal creamy type :)

After lunch, we walked around the surrounding area of the restaurant. We enjoyed the cooling weather as well as the nice scenery.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

I am not sure what plant is this, but it looks special to me. The yellow flowers were looking down at the ground instead of the sky

After that, we entered into the Safari Zoo!! Let me tell you how different is this zoo compared to our normal national zoo! Guess what, we can drive our cars into the zoo! Yes, Mdm W actually drove her 3 Series into this zoo!! First of all, we were greeted by a friendly zebra.

Before we leaved the zoo, our car was nearly knock down by a hungry elephant. It was walking side-way towards our car when it saw a visitor had a yummy carrot in her hand. But we were lucky enough to move the car away in time. *Phew!!*

Lastly, we shopped for Puncak's famous yogurt drinks before heading home. *Slurp* The yogurt drinks were fresh from the factory!

Overall, I had 3 wonderful experiences of birthday celebrations last year, including my pre-birthday and post-birthday celebrations. =)
After reading this article, I know what is the importance of being an optimistic person. =)
<div class="entry" style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Expecting good things can make you healthier and might even lengthen your life, says researcher Suzanne Segerstrom, PhD, author of Breaking Murphy’s Law. Segerstrom is coauthor of a recent review of studies on the benefits of a positive attitude—and has experienced them herself. We asked her about optimism’s principles and payoffs.

1) Feeling well helps when you’re not well
“When researchers look at people who have similar medical conditions, they can predict who’s likely to live longer: the one who feels his health is better. There’s something about that feeling of wellness that’s important, even—maybe especially—if you’re ill. Optimism also seems to help buffer you against stress. I’ve been studying first-year law students for 16 years. That’s a very stressed group, but in my most recent study, each time a student’s optimism increased one point on a five-point scale, his immune response to an injected virus or yeast improved by 20 percent.”

2) Optimism is something you do
“Anxiety and other negative emotions are known to be detri-mental to the body, especially to your cardiovascular and immune systems, and having an optimistic nature seems to protect against those effects.

In addition, research shows that people who are optimistic about their future behave differently. They exercise more, are less likely to smoke, and follow a better diet. And if they get sick, they’re more apt to actively participate in their treatment. I’ve seen that myself—I have back pain from arthritis, but I think my willingness to do whatever it takes has helped a lot.”

3) Not happy? Don’t worry
“Happiness is a feeling; optimism is a belief that aspects of your future will turn out well. Happiness can fluctuate a lot, but an optimistic disposition is usually pretty stable. If you’re not optimistic, you can try creating a ‘positive events’ log. Good things happen to everyone, but pessimists often don’t take notice; spending a few minutes every day writing about at least three positive things may help you expect them more often. Or instead of trying to be optimistic, do what optimists do: Work hard to reach your goals. Each accomplishment should make it easier to be hopeful about the next one.”

Depending on which study you read, optimists …

…are 9 percent less likely to develop heart disease.

…are only 77 percent as likely to be rehospitalized after some types of major surgery.

…have blood pressure that’s five points lower, on average.

…live an average of 9.5 years longer.

So, start from now, let's be optimistic!!

*Cheers*
When T and I were half way eating our bakmi goreng (fried noodle), the sky turned dark in a sudden. A few minutes later, it was raining cats and dogs!!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">OMG! We had no umbrella at that time!! When we finished lunch, the rain was still very heavy and it didn't seem to be getting slower. We stood in front of the stall and looked for a 'water boy' (kids who rent you their umbrellas during rainy days). We thought of renting an umbrella from one of the kids. However, the demand was higher than the supply and we couldn't get any umbrella.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Luckily, the stall owner offered his umbrella to us. He sent his staff to follow us back to the office and we returned the umbrella to him upon reaching our destination. On the way back, we walked pass tonnes of potholes on the road! On top of that, the passing-by vehicles were splashing water onto the pedestrian pathway. Even though T and I were sharing a huge umbrella, we still got wet, especially my leg.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I even stepped into a puddle of water and got my shoes totally wet! *Sniff* I thought this pair of shoes might be a total loss! I was thinking of shoes shopping already. :p
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">When I reached the office, I immediately wiped myself dry. I was trying to wipe my shoes also, but it was just too wet. Guess what happened after that...
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Hahaha! I put my shoes in front of the fan! I fanned it from 1pm to 5pm. In between, I also changed the position of the shoes so that it can get dry from all angles. Hahaha!! During that 4 hours, one of my colleagues, W was kind enough to lend me her slippers.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Her slippers were way too cute!! I was so shy to wear it to the toilet. Hahaha! Bottom line, it really works when you are drying your wet shoes under the fan for a couple of hours! My shoes are now dry and wearable. So, next time if you have the same problem, why not try out this way?
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
His friend, M recommended a restaurant that serves great Balinese crispy duck (a.k.a. bebek bengkil). We wasn't sure the exact location of the restaurant and we thought the cab driver should be able to get us there.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">On the next day, we took a cab to Menteng. The first cab driver had no clue where exactly Bebek Bengil was located! We got down from the first cab and took another cab. I told the second cab driver that the place is near Plaza Menteng (that was one of the landmark I saw in google map). The driver nodded his head and fetched us to Menteng.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">About 10-15 minutes later, he stopped the cab in front of Plaza Menteng. He told us that he had no idea where was Bebek Bengkil. Gosh! We got stuck and we had no choice but to get down from the cab. We asked one of the shopkeepers nearby and she knew which restaurant we were looking for! Thank god!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">She pointed to the left hand side and told us to walk down the road. I asked if it is walking distance (Bisa jalan ke tempat itu, ke?). She answered 'Yes!' (Bisa!) and nodded her head confidently. So, we thought it might be near. Then, she added 'lumayan jugak!'. T and I thought she was commenting the food in Bebek Bengil was quite pricey. Well, we thanked her for the direction. After 15 minutes of walk, we still do not see the restaurant! We even dropped by a few shops for directions but they do not seems to know where is the restaurant.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Later, M sent an sms to inform us the full address of restaurant. The restaurant was at No.132, and we were right in front of No. 31!! The numbers were not even close!! Not only that, we were not even on the correct street! We started to feel panic and asked for more directions.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">This time, I asked for the particular street instead of the name of the restaurant. The lady knew the street and pointed its way. Then, I asked if its far (jauh?). She nodded her head and said 'lumayan..'... GOSH! T and I were speechless! We finally understood what was the meaning of 'lumayan'... it meant very far!!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Isshh! We were tired and sweaty after the long walk. So, we decided to take a cab to the restaurant. Finally, we managed to get to the restaurant after the misunderstandings due to language barrier.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">For the restaurant, there were two sections - indoor and outdoor. Since the weather looked great, we preferred the outdoor seat. We went to Grand Indonesia, one of the most famous shopping mall in Central Jakarta.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We took the opportunity to shop around. T grabbed himself 2 big bags of discounted branded clothes from a closing down sales. Most of them were on 70-80% off!! However, too bad that I didn't see anything that caught my eyes.

After that, we marched into Sport Warehouse as we saw the 'SALES UP TO 70%' signage!! We couldn't resist to spend some time checking it out! We bought ourselves a pair of half-priced New Balance shoes! It was such a great deal! And I doubt I could get the same pair of shoes in KL with this incredible price. =)
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We felt tired after that and dropped by a coffee house - Kopi Luwak Cafe. This coffee house serves the Indonesia most famous coffee, which is Luwak coffee.

Interior of the coffee house, where a lot of coffee bags were placed at the roof as decorations

According to Wikipedia, "Kopi luwak, or civet coffee, is coffee made from the beans of coffee berries which have been eaten by the Asian Palm Civet and other related civets, then passed through its digestive tract. A civet eats the berries for their fleshy pulp. In its stomach, proteolytic enzymes seep into the beans, making shorter peptides and more free amino acids. Passing through a civet's intestines the beans are then defecated, keeping their shape. After gathering, thorough washing, sun drying, light roasting and brewing, these beans yield an aromatic coffee with much less bitterness, widely noted as the most expensive coffee in the world."

T decided to try out the special cup of Luwak coffee (IDR90,000; approximately RM30), while I ordered for a glass of ice-blended avocado coffee (IDR30,000; approximately RM10). When the drinks came, we were rather surprised. The waitress brought a thermos, a cup, sugar and a pack of coffee sachet (looked like the 3-in-1 coffee sachet). Then, she cut open the sachet and let us smelt the aroma of luwak coffee beans. Mdm W recommended that their food was great. Hence, we gave it a try.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">When we entered the restaurant, we found that the ambiance and the designs of the restaurant were nice. Besides, there was a section with wine racks and it was full with wine bottles! Cool!

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I had a piece of thin crust pizza and a plate of lagsane. The pizza was so crispy and cheesy!! And the lagsane was very cheesy too! I am a cheese lover. So, the cheesy Italian food can really delight me. Heheh! The food portion was very generous and I couldn't finish it. =( But it was really good!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

The delicious lagsane *Yummers!!!*

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I also ordered a cup of hot chocolate. Guess what... The drink was so thick! I had to 'eat' my hot chocolate with my spoon instead of drinking it from the cup. It was just like some melted chocolate in a cup. Hahah! I think it should be listed in the dessert menu instead of the drinks menu. Or probably I need some strawberry or marshmallow to go with the chocolate.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I enjoyed my meal very much!! If I have chance to visit this restaurant again, I would try their cabonara spaghetti too!! Overall, Caffe D' Angelo serves great Italian food =)
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
I only get to return to my home-sweet-home (KL) every fortnightly. So, my bunch of uni good friends celebrated my birthday on the weekend I came back to KL. They brought me to El Cerdo for some juicy German roasted suckling pig.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">El Cerdo is located at Changkat Bukit Bintang, which is a very happening hang-out place in KL. However, parking is an issue here. =( After a few rounds of circling around the area, A decided to leave his car with the car jockey. This had saved us the hassle of walking far too!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We entered the restaurant and found piggy's pictures and figurines were placed every where! Even their menu has a picture of 2 cute piggies too!!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;">The menu was hiding behind our Hoegaarden
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Oink oink oink...
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">When the sweet couple - KH and AL arrived, we started to order our dinner. A helped in making the orders as that was already his third time having dinner in this restaurant. He ordered a Spanish ham platter as the appetizer. Followed with a "One plate of 4 different mini sausages" - 1. Farmer; 2. Thuringer; 3. German Pepper; and 4. Spicy Lyonner Saussage. The sausages were so good!! So as the soup, salad and pork ribs! Yummers!! =)
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Our final dish was a roasted suckling pig! Aww... Half of the piggy came to our table on a wooden chopping board. We were wondering how to eat it. *(>_<)*
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;">Highlights of the night - The roasted sucking pig
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Then, a waiter approached us and asked for a volunteer to chop the piggy into pieces. I had the honor to be the butcher of the night. Hahah!! Guess what? I had to chop it with a plate!! Well, the waiter gave me a lesson on how to chop the piggy.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">According to Mr Waiter, that was one of the traditions from German whereby 1 person had to chop the pig with a plate. Then, put all the bad things/ luck onto the plate before breaking the plate. In return, this person will be granted a wish.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">However, the plate wasn't break at my first try!! OMG... Maybe I didn't put enough bad stuffs onto the plate. Or, I was just too gentle to the plate. Hahaha! Mr Waiter granted me a second chance to break the plate. This round, I put more strengths in throwing the plate into the wooden basket!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;">Voila!!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Mr Waiter took the roasted pig back into the kitchen and got the professionals to chop the piggy into pieces. We got the idea of going to the Look Out Point after reading SL's post in September. I thought this may be a great place where you can see KL's night view. =)
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">A googled and did some simple researches of the place. He found the address and we drove up the hill with the directions given by his GPS. The GPS came in very handy when we need to go to an unfamiliar place. Probably I need to get one for myself too! Hehe!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">When we arrived at the Look Out Point, we saw a few restaurants were operating next to each other. There were 1. Look Out Point, 2. The Heaven, 3. Gasoline, 4. The Panorama Restaurant and the last restaurant was under renovation. That was our first time came to this place. So, we had no idea about which is the best restaurant.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">In the end, we chose Look Out Point Restaurant because the waiter was friendly. On top of that, we saw more tables were occupied with customers in the restaurant. Then, we got ourselves a table and started to check out the menu.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: left;">This restaurant also serves local food, like fried rice and fried noodles besides the western meals. I was surprised that the hypermarket had made a major rearrangement on all its products/ sections. The customers were forced to walk through the electronic and household items department before we can reach other sections. =( That was pretty inconvenient to us.

After we placed all the food and drinks into our trolley, T wanted to get himself a pair of new slippers too. Due to the confused relocation of products, I approached one of the staff and asked for directions. "Excuse me, bisa tanya mana section untuk slipper?" (May I know where is the slipper section?). She looked at me with a smile and question marks all over her head. Okay... Maybe she didn't understand my half past six Bahasa Indonesia. I repeated "Selipar? Kasut"?? (Slipper? Shoes?) Then, she put both her hands together and put them next to her head. She asked if I was asking for 'sleep'... Probably she thought I was hunting for a pillow. Hahaha!!!

This is so funny!! I was scratching my head and pointed at my heels. I told her, 'No.. No... Selipar... Kasut"... Finally, she understood. "Ohhh!! untuk tapak kaki, yea? Sandal?"... I nodded my head and she walked us to the right section. I should have mention 'sandal' in the first place. Hahahahha!!!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Now I know why I should pick up my Bahasa Indonesia. :)
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">*Cheers*
Jacquelinehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11520101123459656385noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15786469.post-31888571937107691552010-10-03T01:40:00.001+08:002010-10-03T01:45:47.803+08:00Another flight delay with the World Best Low Cost Airline<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I flew back from Jakarta with AirAxxx on last Friday. As usual, my colleagues and I reached the airport around 5pm to catch the 7pm flight. When I was paying my airport tax at the self check-in counter, the officer confidently told me that there would be NO delay for this flight. I was happily thanking him for the great news. I thought I can get home by mid night. =)
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">After I settled with all the custom procedures, I continued with my works in a cafe. At 6.15pm, my colleague reminded us that its time for boarding. We quickly packed our laptops and proceeded to the boarding lounge. The guys walked so fast and left me behind... =( You cant blame me for being so slow as I was walking with high heels and carried the heaviest laptop!! There was once I weighted my laptop + adapter in the bag. It was 4kg!!! What an antique dinosaur laptop!!

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif; text-align: center;">I was holding my passport and boarding pass while working in the airport
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">At the boarding lounge, we were informed that our flight would be delayed for 1 hour!! OMG!! Passengers like us were cursing... "AGAIN?!?!??!" Well, we have no choice but to wait for the pilots to bring us home.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Since my boss was rushing me to submit the work, I got to continue working on it in the boarding lounge. Roughly half an hour later, an officer officially announced that the delay of flight was due to some technical issue. Yea right, there's technical issue every week? However, we were luckier this week as all passengers were given a packet of rice and mineral water as compensation. Woohoo... I was so hungry at that time. The meals came to me just in time to cure my hungry tummy.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">We finally boarded the plane at 10 minutes past 8 in the evening. I was not sure if it was raining outside because the flight was so bumpy. I felt the flight was flying high and low at the beginning. To be honest, I was a bit worried and tried to sleep.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">After some time, the plane was much more stable and the air stewardesses started to distribute meals to all the passengers who pre-booked their meals online. I got my chicken rice combo (chicken rice with a 100ml mineral water). Since I was still full after eaten the free meal at the boarding lounge, I gave away my chicken rice to the American-British man who sat next to me. It is better to be given away than let it end up into the dustbin.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I had a little chat with him and found out that he is a Hong Kong resident who fly between KL, Jakarta and Hong Kong frequently. However, that was the second time he flew with this airline. Later, he asked for a bottle of mineral water from the air stewardess. When the air stewardess handed him the bottle of water, she said 'three Ringgit, please' softly. Probably the guy didn't hear and he felt curious why she was still standing there looking at him. He asked her in a curious tone. 'Do I need to pay?'.... I was like... 'duhhh....' Hahahah!!! Guess what, he took out one stack of 50 Ringgit to pay his 3 Ringgit drinks. Emmm....
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Anyway, he was a nice guy who kept me accompanied during the 2-hour flight. We finally reached LCCT at 11.10pm. Subsequently, I got home around 12.40pm. What a loooong day and this will be repeated in 2 weeks time. Wish me luck.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
As usual, my bosses and I arrived early at the airport, paid our airport tax at the counter, and proceeded to the custom counter for passport stamping and documents verifications. There were long queue at the foreigner counters. =/
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">When its time, we showed our passports and boarding passes to the Air Asia personnel and proceeded to the boarding lounge. At the entrance, the ground staff tore half of my boarding pass and returned the passenger copy to me. Later, I found out that they took the wrong portion! They kept the portion with the airport tax receipt sticker on it. That was supposed to be the passenger copy and I need that receipt to claim my travel expenses from company.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I immediately approached the officer and told them about the mistake. However, the guy officer continued to check other passengers' boarding passes, while the lady officer looked at my boarding pass for 2 seconds and ignored me. She did not say a single word to me! I was like... Did she hear what am I saying? Or does she understand English? *curious*
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">Then, I saw the other half of my boarding pass was still lying on the table. I quickly pointed at it and asked if I can exchange the boarding pass. To my surprised, the lady officer scolded me with an angry tone! She said 'Duduk sana standby, nanti saya bagi!!' (Sit there and standby, later I give it to you). Gosh!!! What kind of service is this? She is a bad attitude ground staff. =(
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">After a while, another Air Asia male staff sent me a new sticker with apologies. Well, I have accepted his apologies with smile. At least his service is much better than the fierce lady. Good job!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">

<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">I got an opportunity to sit on the first row and my seat number was 1E. *(^_^)* There was a middle-age Malaysian man on my left and an Indonesian girl on my right. The man was reading a book throughout the 2 hours journey, while the girl was enjoying the view outside the window next to her.
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
Now, I finally found some time to update my blog. This is how I utilise my 1 week of annual leaves. Yea, I'm on leave!!! Wooohoooo~~~ =)

On 17 August, it was Indonesia's Independence Day and we got 1 day of public holiday. So, my colleagues and I took this opportunity to explore other parts of Indonesia. D drove me and 3 other colleagues to Bandung again! This round, we visited Tangkuban Perahu.

Tangkuban Perahu is an active volcano 30 km north of the city of Bandung, the provincial capital of West Java, Indonesia (Wikipedia, 2010). According to Wikipedia, this stratovolcano is on the island of Java and last erupted in 1983. It was 27 years ago, which is way before I was born.

We saw this board at the entrance of Tangkuban Perahu. In fact, I was too busy enjoying the scenery and didn't bother to read it =p

It is one of the popular tourist attraction in Bandung, besides Kawah Putih and Ciwidey strawberry farms. Tourists can either hike or ride to the edge of the crater to view the hot water springs up-close. We chose to drive up the hill to save our energy. Hahaha!! XD See, there were a lot of other visitors drove up too!

There were packed with a lot of visitors' vehicles!!

D told me that the name of Tangkuban Perahu translates roughly to an "upturned boat" in Sundanese. There is also a legend behind this mountain, but I have forgotten it. You can see the "upturned boat" from the picture below. =)

Even though it was a short day-trip to Bandung, we did enjoy the crater and a little bit of shopping at Rumah Mode after that. *(^-^)v*

However, we couldn't buy our bakso (meat balls) from Bakso & Sosis as it was closed. =( Probably they were closed due to public holiday or Ramadan month. Ishhh... I miss their yummy meat ballssssss!!!!
<div style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS",sans-serif;">
